BETHLEHEM (INS)—The latest news from Gaza shows that the death toll among Palestinians is more than 900 and the injured have surpassed 4,000. Many of the dead are women, children and non-combatant men. In the midst of this chaos, Bethlehem Bible College is helping out many people suffering as a result of this conflict. BBC is an indigenous Christian ministry based in Bethlehem that is assisted by Intercede International.

Over the New Year Period, terrible assaults have been made upon Christian churches with the waves of violence that have accompanied the uproar over the fraud in the recent Kenyan elections. The anger over the elections has spread to many disenfranchised and poor people living in squalor in many of the major cities of Kenya.

Intercede International has communications with four different ministries in Kenya–all have been overwhelmed by the violence and Christians are suff- ering. Kenyan missionary leaders have communicated with us and we are sending in these pages some of the communications from these national missionary leaders. With your prayers of intercession and financial help, we can send a message of encouragement that will touch hearts of our Christian brethren in Kenya. Thank you in Christ’s name.

Sincerely yours,

James S. Eagles, President

HAITI (Intercede News Service)—A massive earthquake, with 7.0 magnitude, has hit the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. The death toll from the quake is estimated at more than 200,000. Thousands of homes have been damaged and destroyed in this impoverished country.

Intense violence and persecution has broken out in Orissa, India, ever since a leading Hindu militant was killed by assailants in late August. In reaction to his death, militants have launched assaults against Christians across Orissa, even though no Christians have been implicated in the killing. Churches have been destroyed, more than 15 Christians have been killed, and some young girls were raped. Many Christians have abandoned their homes to escape to safe locations. Please pray for Orissa Follow-Up as it ministers to persecuted Christians in this state.
