FORT ERIE, ONTARIO, CANADA: Our Name Has Changed - But Not Our Message - September 17, 2007
July – August 2007 marked a great milestone for the foreign mission board ministry known for many years in Canada as Christian Aid Mission. In June, the Mission’s Board of Directors and the Mission’s Membership voted unanimously to change the name of the Mission from Christian Aid Mission to Intercede International. In late July, the federal government approved the federal corporation’s change of name.
PHILIPPINES: Amazing God, Amazing Years! - October 12, 2007
Missionaries from across the Philippines gathered in Bacolod City to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Student Missionary Outreach’s work, in August. “Amazing God, Amazing Years!” was the theme for the celebration, and sums up the gratefulness SMO’s missionaries have for how God has worked so strongly among them over the past 30 years.
UZBEKISTAN: A Harvest in Hard Soil - October 19, 2007
In the heart of Central Asia, Uzbekistan is a challenging mission field because the government has banned public evangelism, and made it difficult for Christian groups to be registered. Christians are sometimes imprisoned or tortured, and families reject some new converts to Christianity. Even so, the Church is making inroads, and Good Samaritan Mission recently celebrated 20 years of church-planting in Uzbekistan.
PAKISTAN: Innovative Outreach in Pakistan - October 26, 2007
PAKISTAN—Even though Christians are persecuted severely in Pakistan, one Christian ministry is expanding its ministry there through broadcast work, church-planting, and Bible schools.
PARAGUAY: Where is the Attraction? - November 23, 2007
In our modern western view of Christianity sometimes we want to attract people to our churches using different tools that technology, money and other types of resources allow us to use. In my most recent trip to South America in May 2007—and while waiting for a group of children to come to the little church in a place in the middle of nowhere called Potrero Guayaqui in Paraguay—I (Eliud Herrera, of Intercede International) found something different in comparison to what we have here and the following question came to me: Where is the attraction here? They don’t have a magnificent choir, nor a worship team, nor even good and comfortable benches to sit on, but every Sunday morning that church, led by an 80-year-old lady, is filled with more than 50 children and some adults who have found the attraction in the Lord Jesus Himself.
